Holidays and commemorative dates:
Holy Trinity (Pentecost) – one of the biggest Christian holidays, which in Orthodoxy is among the twelfth holidays. Its name is connected with the descent of the Holy Spirit on the apostles, which Jesus promised before the Ascension. This holiday marks the appearance of the Most High to people in all three guises as the Holy Trinity: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
The ancient name of Trinity – Green Holidays reflects the ancient cult of vegetation (in Trinity there is a tradition of decorating homes with greenery – squatting). The rites of curling trees or wreaths and “kumlen” are tied to the Trinity.
National Service Day of Ukraine – according to Presidential Decree No. 291/03 dated April 4, 2003, the holiday is celebrated annually on the United Nations Public Service Day. On this date, the role of the civil service in the process of the formation of Ukraine as a sovereign, independent, democratic, social, legal state is acknowledged. Usually, on June 23, the best civil servants are awarded.
International Olympic Day – celebrated since 1967 at the initiative of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). This date was chosen to commemorate the founding of the IOC on June 23, 1894 and the revival of the Olympic movement.
International Widows Day – according to UN data, there are currently more than 10 million women in the world who are left without husbands and need help. This day is dedicated to raising awareness about the situation and problems of widows and their children.
Events on this day:
1868 – American Christopher Scholes received a patent for a typewriter.
1888 — a monument to Bohdan Khmelnytskyi was opened in Kyiv.
1917 — during the II All-Ukrainian Military Congress in Kyiv, the First Universal of the Ukrainian Central Rada was proclaimed.
The document declares the autonomy of Ukraine. This was the response of the Ukrainian Central Committee to the Provisional Government for its negative attitude towards the autonomous government. According to the First Universal, “without separating from all of Russia… the Ukrainian people must organize their own lives”, and laws must be adopted by the All-People’s Ukrainian Assembly. The author of Universal I was V. Vynnychenko. After the declaration of autonomy on June 28, 1917, the General Secretariat was created.
II Universal recorded the consequences of the agreements between the UCR and the Provisional Government: the latter recognized the UCR and the General Secretariat as a regional body of Ukraine, and at the same time the General Secretariat became a body of the Provisional Government. III Universal proclaimed the Ukrainian People’s Republic

1941 — the largest tank battle in history began — between German and Soviet troops in the Lutsk-Rivne-Dubno-Brody region (ended on June 29).
1961 — the Treaty on the Peaceful Scientific Use of the Antarctic, signed in 1959, entered into force.
1987 — Serhii Bubka set a world record in pole vaulting — 6 m 3 cm.
1990 — the beginning of the return of Crimean Tatars to Crimea.
2016 — referendum on the exit of Great Britain from the EU. The majority of its participants (52%) voted for Brexit. The next day, Prime Minister David Cameron, the main opponent of “Brexit”, announced his intention to resign.
2022 — The European Council officially granted Ukraine and Moldova the status of a candidate for EU membership.
