Kallas said that Ukraine has taken an important step towards joining the EU
The future of Ukraine lies within the European Union: it has already taken an important step on this path. About this stated EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaya Kallas during a joint press conference with Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.
“We have noted important progress in screening. Ukraine has fully completed the preliminary step necessary on the way to accession. There will be no cuts, no shortcuts. The approach is one-size-fits-all.” – said Kallas.
The EU’s chief diplomat also noted that, despite the war, Ukraine has made significant progress in implementing reforms required by the European Union.
“I want to assure you that your future is in the EU. We will work together for this. And we are waiting for that day to come as soon as possible when we welcome Ukraine as a member of the EU.” – emphasized Kallas.
In response, Denys Shmyhal emphasized that Ukraine is doing everything possible to speed up the European integration process.
“I believe that Ukraine can achieve significant results not in years, but in months. We will be able to do all the “homework” in order to become a full member of the European Union immediately after the end of the war.” Shmyhal emphasized.
He noted that Ukraine is waiting for the convening of the Intergovernmental Conference after the decision of the Council of the EU to open the “Fundamentals of the EU Accession Process” cluster. Kyiv expects that all six clusters will be opened in 2025 as part of the negotiation process.
