Kim Jong-un announces a course for accelerated creation of a military superpower
North Korea plans to accelerate its efforts to create a military superpower with nuclear weapons, not excluding the possibility of its use in the event of an enemy attack. This was stated by the leader of the DPRK, Kim Jong-un, during his speech, which quotes Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
On October 7, Kim Jong-un visited the National Defense University on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of its founding. In his speech, he emphasized that a violation of the strategic balance on the Korean Peninsula could provoke a military conflict. In his opinion, the policy of the DPRK, aimed at creating means of deterrence and control over the situation, is justified and necessary to prevent aggression from the adversaries.
“Our steps towards becoming a military superpower and a nuclear power will become even faster”,” Kim Jong-un declared.
He also accused South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol of conspiring with the US to destabilize the region. According to the North Korean leader, South Korea is trying to hide the lack of proper strategic weapons by colluding with Washington.
Kim Jong-un stressed that North Korea does not rule out the possibility of using nuclear weapons, pointing out that his country is facing “the largest nuclear power in the world” that runs “puppet governments” in the region.
These statements by Kim Jong-un were made on the day when the Supreme People’s Assembly of North Korea met to discuss constitutional amendments. In recent decades, North Korea has actively developed its nuclear program and has already conducted six underground nuclear tests. North Korea is believed to have enough material to build dozens of nuclear weapons.
Previously, Kim Jong Un has repeatedly stated that the DPRK is ready to use all available means, including nuclear weapons, if someone tries to encroach on the country’s sovereignty. At the same time, the US suspects that North Korea may turn to Russia for technology to improve its missile and nuclear programs in exchange for Moscow’s military support.
