Biden pardoned several officials in the final hours of his presidency

On January 20, US President Joe Biden pardoned Dr. Anthony Fauci, Mark Milley and members of the House Committee investigating the riot on Capitol Hill on January 6, 2021. According to Biden, these officials could face harassment from his successor, Donald Trump. About this informs Euronews.
“These are exceptional circumstances, and I cannot in good conscience do nothing. Baseless and politically motivated investigations harm the lives, safety and finances of the individuals against whom they are conducted and their families.” – says Biden’s statement.
All the persons pardoned by Biden have become the object of harsh criticism from Trump and his supporters. In his statement, Biden emphasized that the act of pardon should not be seen as an admission of guilt.
“These pardons should not be construed as an admission that any person has committed any wrongdoing, nor should they be construed as an admission of guilt for any wrongdoing. Our nation is indebted to these public servants for their tireless dedication to our country.”, he noted.
At the end of his presidential term, Biden set a record for the number of individual pardons and commutations issued by the head of state. On Friday, he announced commutations for nearly 2,500 people convicted of non-violent drug crimes.
It will be recalled that last month Biden changed the sentences of 37 out of 40 people sentenced to death, replacing them with life imprisonment without the right to pardon.
