Law enforcement officers exposed the embezzlement of 14.6 million hryvnias during defense procurement
Law enforcement agencies have reported suspicions that the former head and employee of the State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine, as well as the director of a private company, have embezzled state funds in the amount of 14.6 million hryvnias. This was reported by the Prosecutor General’s Office.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, in 2024, the former head of a state-owned enterprise organized the purchase of wire at inflated prices, which was then used to manufacture inconspicuous defense barriers. He involved the enterprise’s commodity expert and the director of a controlled company in the scheme.
The investigation established that the commodity expert registered the supply of raw materials from a real manufacturer through an enterprise controlled by him, artificially inflating the cost of products by more than 20%. This caused losses to the state-owned enterprise in the amount of more than 14.6 million hryvnias.
The suspects have already been notified of the suspicion, and law enforcement officers are taking measures to select preventive measures. The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by detectives of the Bureau of Economic Security of Ukraine, operational support is provided by the USBU in Zaporizhia region with the support of the Internal Security Department of the Department for the Execution of Criminal Punishments of the Ministry of Justice.
