European countries are ready to provide security guarantees to Ukraine on the day of signing the peace agreement with Russia. This was announced by French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris during a meeting with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky .
“We, the Europeans, are ready to provide guarantees to Ukraine on the day when peace is signed. This is what was said in Washington. The work that was set before us has been done, and today we can say: we are ready to give political support to these agreements, Macron said.
He emphasized that Europe’s allies are demonstrating such a level of commitment and readiness to provide security guarantees to Ukraine for the first time. According to the French president, the preparatory work, which was carried out after the summit in Washington in August, has been completed and will be politically approved at the meeting of the Coalition of the Willing.
“For the first time, Europe is present with this level of commitment and intensity, because the security of Ukraine and Ukrainians is also our security”, Macron emphasized.
He also added that the final decision will depend on Russia and those peace proposals that it previously voiced to the United States.
In response, Volodymyr Zelensky thanked France for its leadership role in supporting Ukraine since the start of the full-scale war and noted the deliveries of air defense systems.
“France has always been among the leaders. I am very grateful for the decisions regarding the air defense systems, which save the lives of Ukrainians every day, – said the President of Ukraine.
He emphasized that France, together with Great Britain, is currently leading a coalition of the willing, which should become a new international initiative in support of Ukraine.
