Lithuania and the United States signed an agreement in Paris to deepen cooperation in the field of drones and countermeasures
Lithuania and the United States have agreed to deepen cooperation in the field of unmanned aerial vehicles and countermeasures. The relevant letter of intent was signed by the Lithuanian Ministry of Defence and the US Department of Defence during a ceremony in Paris.
The document covers unmanned aerial vehicles, as well as technologies for their detection, neutralisation and countermeasures. The parties plan to jointly identify promising areas, accelerate the development and implementation of new solutions, and coordinate procurement.
Lithuania and the US will pay special attention to improving the interoperability of their systems for more effective use during joint operations. It is also planned to evaluate common standards for transmitting and processing data from drone sensors.
The Lithuanian Ministry of Defense noted that the agreement reflects a shared commitment to defense innovation, faster implementation of new technologies, as well as closer exchange of expert knowledge, threat information and operational data.
Lithuania has previously started production of anti-drone ammunition. In addition, the country is discussing compensation for damage caused by downed drones. The new agreement with the United States should strengthen Lithuania’s technological capabilities in the field of unmanned and anti-drone systems.
