Lithuania plans to implement Ukrainian drone detection system

Lithuania plans to introduce a Ukrainian acoustic system for detecting drones on its territory. Funds for its purchase have already been allocated by the country’s government. About this stated Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Lithuania Raimundas Vaikshnoras in an interview with LRT.

According to Vaikshnoras, the system will undergo testing until the end of this year, and its full deployment will begin in 2026.

“Next year, the implementation of these systems will begin more intensively. They were already known since last fall, but the procedural moments were delayed a little, since it is, one might say, a Ukrainian system that we still needed to adapt to the implementation of our American systems, due to sensitive things.” – explained Vaikshnoras.

Drones repeatedly violated the airspace of Lithuania from the side of Belarus. So, on July 10 at around 11:30 a.m., the Lithuanian Air Force recorded a home-made unmanned aerial vehicle that crossed the border from the Belarusian side and crashed near the closed Shumsk checkpoint. According to preliminary information, the device was without cargo and did not pose a direct threat.

On July 16, Lithuanian border guards shot down another small drone, which also arrived from the territory of Belarus. According to the service, such devices are often used by smugglers to deliver illegal cigarettes to Lithuania.

On July 28, the Lithuanian police recorded another case of airspace violation — an unknown unmanned aerial vehicle flew from Belarus.
