Lutsk City Council deputies voted for the early resignation of Mayor Ihor Polishchuk
The deputy corps of the Lutsk City Council on March 25 supported the decision to early termination of the powers of the city mayor Ihor Polishchuk. The official, who has headed the regional center since November 2020, filed a corresponding application of his own free will.
During the vote, 38 deputies supported the initiative, which legally secured the change in the city’s leadership. Polishchuk addressed those present with words of gratitude, noting the contribution of entrepreneurs, utility workers and military personnel to the development of the community.
The official separately emphasized that his decision was not related to the activities of law enforcement agencies or the results of audits. He emphasized that the circumstances that prompted him to write the statement are personal, and he does not consider it necessary to make them public. It is worth noting that at the end of 2025, detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine conducted investigative actions at the place of residence and work of the mayor, as well as in the office of the head of the Volyn Regional Council, Hryhoriy Nedopada.
“This resignation is absolutely not related to either NABU or the audit. I do not consider it necessary to detail the circumstances that prompted me to write such a statement,” said Ihor Polishchuk.
During previous comments on the detectives’ visit, both officials confirmed that searches had been conducted, but stated that no documents or material values had been seized from them.
Ihor Polishchuk then called a special press conference, where he thanked the representatives of the anti-corruption bureau for their correct behavior and reported that no suspicions were handed to him, and his procedural status in the case has not been determined. The defendants did not disclose the reason for the investigative actions, referring to the secrecy of the investigation.
“The law enforcement officers did not suspect me or involve me as a witness”, he noted.
In parallel with these events, information appeared on the official NABU resources about the exposure of a corruption scheme, which may involve other representatives of local government. In particular, suspicions of receiving illegal benefits were announced to the deputy of the Volyn Regional Council Anatoly Vitiv and the deputy of the Lutsk City Council Mykola Fedik.
The case concerns fraud with a land plot within the city limits. Despite this, the former mayor insists that there is no connection between these criminal proceedings and his dismissal.
“I thank the people of Luhansk, deputies, municipal employees, entrepreneurs and the military for their work and constructive criticism,” the official emphasized.
