Maxar has restored Ukraine’s access to commercial satellite imagery
American aerospace company Maxar Technologies restored access of Ukrainian users to the GEGD service, which provides high-quality commercial satellite images.
This is the US government’s Global Enhanced GEOINT Delivery (GEGD) program, which provides access to satellite images collected and intended for use by the US government. The restoration of this program allows Ukraine to once again use high-quality satellite data for defense and intelligence purposes.
We will remind you that on March 7, the US government temporarily suspended the access of Ukrainian accounts to GEGD. The official explanation from the Maxar administration sounded like “by administrative request”. In fact, the blackout was a consequence of the United States government’s ban on providing Ukraine with intelligence data.
On March 11, 2025, as a result of negotiations between the delegations of Ukraine and the United States, the pause in the provision of intelligence and military assistance to Ukraine was canceled.
