Meta launches beta test of AI assistant in Threads for news and event analysis

Meta has begun testing a new artificial intelligence feature on its social network Threads, which allows the company’s chatbot to publicly respond to user posts and provide additional context to discussions.

To do this, the company has launched an official @meta.ai account, with which users can interact directly in the Threads feed. In the first phase, the feature is available in Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Argentina and Singapore.

The new tool resembles the model of the Grok chatbot on the X social network. Users will be able to ask Meta AI questions about popular topics or call the bot in the comments on other publications.

The company is also testing “side chats” with Meta AI in group chats on WhatsApp and other services. In this format, the bot will be able to explain the context of the conversation or answer questions based on messages in the chat, but these answers will be visible only to the user.

Meta is also expanding the Live AI feature, which allows you to ask questions about objects around you in real time via your smartphone camera. At the same time, the launch of AI responses on social media has once again raised the issue of the risks of disinformation and manipulation.

Meta said that users will be able to hide Meta AI responses and disable interaction with the official AI account in Threads.
