Servicemen who have been involved in the war since 2022 or longer will be able to partially discharge themselves from service as early as the end of this fall. The presidential decree on discharge will have greater legal force than current contracts. This was reported by Defense Minister Mikhail Fedorov.
According to Fedorov, the procedure for dismissing servicemen will be formed according to two main criteria. These are the total length of service in the army since 2014 and the total number of combat days.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will coordinate the process and draw up schedules. For this purpose, they plan to launch a special digital calculator, with the help of which each serviceman will be able to independently see the exact month of his dismissal.
The number of soldiers who will be dismissed each month will depend on the intensity of hostilities and the pace of mobilization in Russia. The Minister of Defense emphasized that the state cannot simultaneously demobilize all the military conscripts of 2022, as this could lead to the collapse of the front. These people, according to him, are currently the basis of the Ukrainian army.
At the same time, Fedorov emphasized that the military should not remain hostages of the system. Therefore, the first stage of transformation should give them decent financial security, clear prospects and the possibility of dismissal from service.
“That is, if you, for example, have been in the service since 2022 and have a large number of combat days, then you can already be dismissed from service by presidential decree at the end of this year. We cannot immediately release everyone who has been fighting since 2022, otherwise the front will simply collapse. The war is currently being carried out on these people, they are the skeleton of our army. But they should not be hostages of the system. So we are doing this first stage of transformation to give them hope, money and the prospect of dismissal,” the Minister of Defense emphasized.
