Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lisovyi confirmed the existence of coincidences in his dissertation
Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lisovyi confirmed the existence of coincidences in his thesis and noted that at that time he had to compromise with practices accepted in the academic environment.
IN interview for “VVS Ukraine” Lisovyi, refraining from specific details, noted:
“I certainly had coincidences in the thesis. And most importantly, I had coincidences in the conclusions. I know and remember the nature of these coincidences, why they ended up there very well.”
The minister explained that at that time he accepted the compromise terms typical of the academic culture of that time.
“I said, if it’s the way it is, then I guess it should be accepted. And I accepted what it is.” – he added.
Lisovyi also emphasized that he gave up his scientific degree to avoid any connection with the mentioned culture.
“It was the culture of 2010. The rules of the game were such that I didn’t like it. And the closer I was to the defense, the more it turned me off. At one point I even regretted doing it.” – he shared.
We will remind you that on March 23, 2023, Minister of Forestry and Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Education, Science and Innovation Serhiy Babak submitted their dissertations for plagiarism checking to the National Agency for Quality Assurance of Higher Education. In May 2023, Lisovyi and Babak voluntarily relinquished their degrees, which led to the suspension of the review of their dissertations.
