Mobilization collapse: Yulia Tymoshenko on youth rights

Yulia Tymoshenko urged the parliament to immediately adopt draft law No. 11379, which amends the Law of Ukraine “On Mobilization and Mobilization Training.” This bill is aimed at protecting the rights of young men aged 18 to 25, granting them a deferment from conscription during mobilization.

The leader of “Batkivshchyna” expressed her indignation at the situation when young men are illegally drafted into military commissariats, which prevents them from entering the magistracy. She emphasized the need for justice and legality in mobilization processes, calling the adopted law repressive, not motivational.

“Today, for the twelfth time, we are voting on the resolution on the continuation of the mobilization. Twelve times the Batkivshchyna party has voted for it, but the main question before us is what kind of mobilization is being carried out in Ukraine, how it is taking place, how fair, how legal, and to what extent of the Ukrainian nation, before its very existence is correct. And here I would like to tell you that, unfortunately, the law on mobilization, which was adopted on a repressive, not a motivational basis, is a big strategic mistake of our parliament and the president.” noted Yulia Timoshenko.

Tymoshenko focuses on violations of the rights of young people aged 18 to 25, who, due to legal conflicts, become conscripts and even mobilize, despite the fact that their age does not require mobilization. She calls for the immediate adoption of the appropriate bill to stop illegal actions against this category of youth.

“In the law, we have clearly defined certain parameters that must be fulfilled. There are certain categories of people who are not mobilized according to the law, and this must be observed. But the most important thing that I would like to emphasize today is our youth, our children from 18 to 25 years old. When the parliament decided clearly in the law that mobilization is only from 25 years old, they found a conflict in the law, and today they are dragging children against the law parliament, including by not admitting them to the magistracy,” – believes Tymoshenko.
