Modern methods of deceiving Ukrainians: be careful!

Cases of fraudulent schemes related to phone calls and bank cards have become more frequent in Ukraine. Criminals are constantly inventing new ways to deceive people and get hold of their money. One of the cases took place in the Zhytomyr region, where 24 people illegally took possession of 1.5 million hryvnias.

A resident of the Olev community organized a fraudulent scheme to illegally receive Chernobyl surcharges. According to his plan, people were “registered” in an abandoned house in the territory of radioactive contamination, and then through the court they sought payments to which they were not entitled.

As a result, 24 suspects were unjustly charged UAH 1.5 million in pension supplements, almost half of which they managed to receive.

Currently, investigative actions are ongoing, the probability of receipt of illegal payments under a similar scheme by other persons is established.

According to the publication Ternopil Linden another case happened yesterday, April 5, where a resident of the Skalat community of the Ternopil region lost almost 39,000 hryvnias, believing telephone fraudsters who presented themselves as bank employees.

The woman received a call from a bank and reported that they were trying to steal money from her card. The interlocutor suggested that she call the bank’s hotline again and clarify the information. The woman called, but she could not get through to the operator.

A few seconds later, she got another call, allegedly from the bank. This time, the fraudsters confirmed that they were trying to steal money from her card and offered to transfer the funds to a reserve account. Unfortunately, the woman believed them and transferred all her savings.
