Moldova creates a platform for employment of Ukrainian refugees

Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Ukrainians have been seeking safe haven in other countries. Moldova has become one of the countries where Ukrainians find shelter and support. One of the most important needs of refugees is employment, which allows them to provide for themselves and their families, as well as to integrate into a new society. An important new opportunity is emerging in this regard: DILO.MD, the first online platform for employment of Ukrainian refugees in Moldova, will be presented in Chisinau. The presentation will take place on 7 November during the Job Fair, which will also be attended by international organisations supporting Ukrainians. The event is aimed at telling about the platform created to facilitate the employment of Ukrainians, in particular for those who do not yet speak Romanian.

Presentation of the DILO.MD platform

The National Congress of Ukrainians of Moldova (NCUM) has announced the launch of the first online platform for employment of Ukrainian refugees – DILO.MD, which is intended to become an effective tool to facilitate the employment of Ukrainian refugees. The event will be held on 7 November at the Academy of Economic Education in Chisinau (61 Metropolitan Gabriel Benulescu-Bodoni Str.) from 10:00 to 14:00. In addition to the presentation of DILO.MD, the Job Fair will feature Moldovan companies that are ready to provide jobs for Ukrainian refugees, as well as international organisations that support the process of integration of Ukrainians into the new environment. Attendees will be able to get acquainted with the functions of the platform, which greatly facilitates the job search process for Ukrainians.

Purpose and functions of the DILO.MD platform

DILO.MD was created specifically for Ukrainians who were forced to leave their homes and are now in Moldova. The main objective of the platform is to facilitate their socio-economic adaptation, facilitate employment and help them integrate into Moldovan society. DILO.MD provides a wide range of vacancies, which allows refugees to find work according to their professional skills and experience. The platform also contains educational resources and professional courses, which is especially important for those planning to learn new professions.

In addition, DILO.MD simplifies communication with employers, facilitating the recruitment process, which is especially important for those who have not yet mastered the Romanian language. The platform is available in several languages to make its use as convenient as possible for Ukrainians. This provides easy access to vacancies and avoids the difficulties associated with the language barrier, which is often an obstacle to employment in another country.

Employment situation of Ukrainians in Moldova

In recent months, the International Organisation for Migration conducted a study that showed that about 60% of Ukrainian refugees in Moldova have already managed to find work, of which 44% are employed on a permanent basis and another 10% hold temporary or informal positions. Men found it easier to find work than women, which can be explained by the difference in demand for professions. However, despite the positive dynamics, significant challenges remain, especially for women and those who do not speak Romanian or have insufficient professional experience. The DILO.MD platform aims to reduce these obstacles by offering tools for successful employment.

Legalisation of Ukrainians in Moldova

Ukrainians residing in Moldova can legalise their status by applying for asylum, which is an important step on the path to integration. Regardless of how Ukrainian men crossed the border – on their own or with the help of intermediaries – Moldovan legislation guarantees them protection. According to Article 9 of the Law on Asylum in the Republic of Moldova, asylum seekers are exempt from liability for illegal border crossing or illegal stay in Moldova. This provision allows Ukrainians to avoid punishment and receive support in the process of adaptation and employment.

Social support and integration of Ukrainian refugees

To improve the living conditions and integration of Ukrainian refugees, the Moldovan government has decided to close 8 out of 37 temporary accommodation centres, while expanding the social assistance network. It is planned to establish refugee social integration units in 14 settlements, where qualified specialists will help Ukrainians find jobs, housing, access to education and other social issues. This is an important step aimed at providing Ukrainian refugees with comprehensive support, which will allow them to adapt to the new society faster.

Peculiarities of adaptation of Ukrainians in Moldova

Ukrainian refugees face many challenges while living in another country. Experience shows that successful integration requires access to education, medical care, housing and, of course, employment. Moldova is committed to helping Ukrainians become full-fledged members of society by providing opportunities for professional development and social support. The new DILO.MD platform, together with the support of the state and international organisations, is one of the key tools to realise these aspirations.

The launch of the DILO.MD platform is an important milestone in supporting Ukrainian refugees in Moldova. It not only simplifies access to the labour market, but also helps to remove language and social barriers, enabling Ukrainians to find work, regardless of their knowledge of Romanian or experience. This will help them gain stability, a sense of security and the ability to provide for themselves and their families in the new environment. Thanks to the support of the state and international organisations, Ukrainian refugees will be able to take advantage of these new opportunities, gradually integrating into the social and economic life of Moldova.
