MPs to consider draft law to increase liability for arson of military vehicles
People’s deputy from the “Servant of the People” party, Maryan Zablotskyi, submitted to the Verkhovna Rada a draft law, which provides for increased responsibility for the burning of military vehicles. That’s what he’s about reported in their social networks.
According to the deputy, there is currently a problem with prosecution for such crimes.
“For example, cars are often on the balance sheet of charitable funds, which makes punishment for damage to military property formally impossible. Also, today in any case persons from 14 to 16 years old are exempted from responsibility, and this age category is most often recruited by the enemy. Although there is no such leniency for setting fire to the cars of police officers or judges”, – noted the People’s Deputy.
The draft law provides for punishment for setting fire to military vehicles in the form of imprisonment for a term of 10 to 15 years, regardless of the circumstances and age of the perpetrators. This category also includes volunteers’ vehicles.
“I also include the cars of volunteers under this category. In the last three months alone, 180 cases of arson of military vehicles have been officially recorded. I am sure that in reality there are even more”Zablotsky emphasized.
Recently, law enforcement officers detained a 16-year-old student who was recruited by Russian supervisors to set fire to Defense Forces vehicles. For this, he was promised a reward of 1,000 dollars. The teenager was arrested while preparing for the crime, and now he faces up to 12 years in prison.
