OpenAI is preparing to unveil its first proprietary artificial intelligence chip. The ChatGPT developer implements this project in partnership with the American company Broadcom, which specializes in the production of semiconductors. reports Reuters.
The new chip will be for internal use only and will not be sold on the market. OpenAI has been looking for opportunities to diversify chip supply and reduce costs for several years.
Before that, the company considered cooperation options with Broadcom and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), and also used solutions from AMD and Nvidia to meet the rapidly growing demand for computing resources.
OpenAI has accelerated work on its own solution to reduce dependence on Nvidia. According to sources, the company has completed the design of the first generation of its chip and plans to transfer it to TSMC for production.
Broadcom CEO Hok Tan confirmed that the company has already received large-scale orders for AI infrastructure from a major new customer. He noted that in 2026, revenues from this direction will increase significantly.
