Musk warned of the risks of a US default if the country does not change its financial policy
American billionaire Elon Musk warned about the risks of US default if the country does not change its financial policy. He made a corresponding statement made public on the X social network, commenting on a publication about the financial problems of the United States.
According to Musk, about 25% of all tax revenues of the federal budget are currently spent exclusively on paying interest on the national debt. According to updated data, the US national debt has already exceeded $37 trillion, while annual budget revenues are only about $5 trillion.
Of particular concern is the rate of debt growth: a corresponding graph accompanying the publication shows steady growth since the 1960s and a sharp acceleration since the 2000s. In January 2025, Congress was already forced to raise the national debt limit to $36.1 trillion, but this level was exceeded within a few months.
“If the situation does not change, all tax revenues will go only to service the debt, leaving other areas – defense, infrastructure, health care – without funding.” Musk emphasized.
The entrepreneur called for an immediate review of the US budget policy and reduction of the deficit, stressing that further ignoring the problem could lead to financial collapse.
