NABU and SAP completed the investigation of the case concerning the People’s Deputy-entrepreneur who offered bribes for reconstruction

Today, May 22, 2024, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office sent an indictment to the court against a current People’s Deputy of Ukraine, who tried to obtain contracts for the reconstruction of infrastructure facilities worth 1 billion hryvnias by bribing high-ranking officials.

Investigation established, that in August 2023, the people’s deputy, who is also the owner of large construction and agricultural businesses, approached a top official of the Ministry of Reconstruction with an offer of “remuneration” in the amount of 3-5% of the value of each contract in exchange for assistance in obtaining contracts. The director of the people’s deputy company was also involved in the scheme.

Subsequently, those involved handed over 150,000 US dollars in a Chinese casket in the parking lot of one of the capital’s supermarkets to an official of the State Recovery Agency.

This is already the second case when a people’s deputy is accused of giving undue benefits to top officials in the field of reconstruction. The first indictment was sent to the court in April 2024.

Back in November 2023, NABU and SAP, together with the Deputy Prime Minister for the Reconstruction of Ukraine and the head of the State Reconstruction Agency, conducted a large-scale operation to expose a corruption scheme with the participation of people’s deputies, officials and business representatives.
