Naftogaz plans to purchase 4.5 billion cubic meters of gas by winter

Naftogaz Group announced its intention to import up to 4.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas in preparation for the 2025/2026 heating season. About this reported the press service of the company.

Since the beginning of the year, 1.5 billion cubic meters have already been contracted: 800 million cubic meters were imported urgently, 400 million were reserved for the winter period, another 300 million cubic meters of liquefied natural gas were purchased from the Polish company ORLEN.

In the first quarter of 2025, Naftogaz received €430 million from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Norwegian government for the purchase of 1 billion cubic meters of gas. At the same time, negotiations are underway to attract another €1 billion for the purchase of an additional 2 billion cubic meters. The company also provided 177 MW of backup generation, which allows maintaining energy supply for 500,000 Ukrainians.

In 2024–2025, 34 facilities of the Ukrgazvydobuvannya company were attacked by enemies. In particular, one of the largest occurred in February 2025, which led to a 50% decrease in production volumes. Despite the difficulties, the income from gas sales increased to UAH 90.7 billion, which is UAH 14.1 billion more than in the previous year. The level of customer settlements reached 90%.

In 2024, Naftogaz paid UAH 104 billion in taxes to the budget, which is UAH 14 billion more than in 2023 and is 7% of the consolidated budget of Ukraine.

Despite the plans of the company’s explorer Oleksiy Chernyshov, which provided for ensuring the season exclusively at the expense of own production, massive attacks on the infrastructure in the first months of 2025 forced the company to import 800 million cubic meters of gas in February-March.
