NATO fighter jets intercepted a Russian reconnaissance plane over the Baltic Sea

NATO raised fighter jets to intercept after the appearance of a Russian reconnaissance aircraft over the Baltic Sea. This is reported by Handelsblatt.

The German Air Force specified that initially the unknown plane flew in international airspace without a flight plan and did not communicate. After that, two Eurofighter fighters were flown from the Rostak-Lage air base to intercept it. It was visually established that it was a Russian Il-20M reconnaissance aircraft.

Let us remind you that the situation in the Baltic region has worsened due to new air space violations by Russia. On September 19, three Russian MiG-31K fighters illegally entered Estonian airspace. NATO responded by raising planes to intercept them.

“NATO is acting exactly as agreed. There was no direct military threat to Estonia, but we categorically do not accept Russia’s violation of the airspace of Estonia and NATO, emphasized the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, Margus Tsakhna.

In response, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation stated that their planes did not violate the borders, but were performing a scheduled flight from Karelia to the Kaliningrad region.
