Norway provides additional 1.5 billion Norwegian kroner to ensure Ukraine’s energy security
Norway is providing an additional 1.5 billion Norwegian kroner to provide Ukraine with electricity and heat. The support is provided in cooperation with the European Union and should help cover the country’s energy needs on the eve of a fourth winter of full-scale war, the Norwegian government’s press service reported.
“Ukraine is facing another difficult winter, and access to electricity is unstable. Together with the EU, we are stepping up our efforts to ensure access to energy for Ukrainian households, businesses and institutions. This is important both for individual Ukrainians and for society to continue moving forward,” said Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
The financial assistance is provided under the EU program “Investment Framework for Ukraine”, aimed at mobilizing public and private investment to rebuild the country after the devastation caused by Russian aggression. The program is part of the Ukraine Fund, which provides the basis for all civilian support to Ukraine from the European Union. This is the first time that Ukraine has received assistance from Norway directly through this initiative.
“Ukraine needs stable and sufficient access to energy to keep society moving while the struggle continues. Working with the EU, we ensure that this support will help ensure Ukraine’s energy security,” Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide emphasized.
This contribution is part of the Nansen Programme for Ukraine and complements previous assistance aimed at purchasing gas in 2025. In total, Norway has provided Ukraine with NOK 6.1 billion for gas imports since 2022.
