Nowynskyi’s company sued Ukraine
Energy company Enwell Energy, which is part of the Smart Energy group associated with former People’s Deputy Vadym Novinsky, filed a lawsuit against Ukraine due to the cancellation of gas production licenses. They were annulled after the introduction of sanctions against Novinsky. This is mentioned in the company statement.
The document states that the grounds for the lawsuit were “interference with the registration of the company’s ownership rights to its subsidiaries and assets, freezing of certain assets of the group, raids and searches in local offices”.
The company emphasizes that the license for gas production was terminated precisely in connection with the sanctions against Novinsky. Enwell Energy demands the restoration of licenses and compensation for damages for the period during which they were suspended. The claim was submitted to arbitration on the basis of the agreement between Great Britain and Ukraine on the promotion and mutual protection of investments, concluded back in 1993.
Recall that, according to Forbes, in 2021, Novinsky was ranked eighth among the richest people in Ukraine. On July 8 of last year, the Verkhovna Rada prematurely terminated his parliamentary powers, for which 295 parliamentarians voted.
Novinsky himself, a former member of the “Opposition Bloc”, said on Facebook that he is drafting a mandate to focus on humanitarian projects, economic development, support for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate, and restoration of destroyed churches.
In January 2023, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi imposed sanctions against a number of representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church, including UOC MP Metropolitan Pavlo and Vadym Novinsky. In the same year, Novinsky was spotted in Zurich, where he held a service in the Russian Orthodox Church.
In June 2025, the State Bureau of Investigation informed him of suspicion of tax evasion in the amount of 4 billion hryvnias.
