NVIDIA is investing up to $100 billion in OpenAI data centers

NVIDIA has officially announced plans to invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI to create a large-scale artificial intelligence infrastructure.

The main part of the funds will be directed to the construction of data centers with a total capacity of 10 gigawatts, which will allow training and implementation of new generations of OpenAI AI models. Funding will take place in stages: the first $10 billion will come with the launch of the first gigawatt of capacity, and further investments will depend on the development of the project.

The first series of data centers are planned to be commissioned in the second half of 2026. The new centers will be based on NVIDIA’s Vera Rubin platform, which promises a significant advance over Blackwell’s current technology.

Under the terms of the partnership, NVIDIA will receive a stake in OpenAI, which emphasizes the strategic nature of the cooperation. As OpenAI CEO Sam Altman noted, computing infrastructure will become the foundation of the economy of the future, and artificial intelligence will be the driver of business and social change.

The announcement has already caused a noticeable increase in the price of NVIDIA shares and strengthened the company’s position in global markets. Experts note that the project can significantly change the balance of power in the industry and set a new pace of AI development.
