Two obstetrician-gynecologists will appear in court, accused of improper performance of professional duties, which caused serious consequences for newborns. As reported in the Prosecutor General’s Office, due to their negligence, one child died and another became disabled.
The Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported that in 2021 in Kramatorsk, during childbirth, the doctor did not provide proper monitoring of the condition of the fetus. The baby was without access to oxygen for a long time, which caused asphyxia and severe damage to the central nervous system.
The boy received a disability, has a number of serious diseases and requires constant medical supervision, special nutrition and care in a specialized institution. The investigation notes that timely detection of complications and appropriate actions during childbirth could have prevented such consequences. The indictment against the doctor has already been sent to court.
The prosecutor’s office of the Mukachevo District Prosecutor’s Office sent another indictment to court against a doctor who, while on duty in March 2024, improperly provided assistance to a 35-year-old woman with a complicated full-term pregnancy. Due to violations of standards and clinical protocols, the newborn received a severe birth injury – damage to the cervical spine and spinal cord. The child lived for 8 months and 22 days and died in December 2024 in the intensive care unit of the regional hospital.
Medical workers are charged under Part 2 of Article 140 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – improper performance of professional duties, which caused serious consequences.
