Ukraine will receive $415 million for education: how the funding will be distributed
Ukraine will receive 415 million dollars to support the education sector within the framework of a four-year project. About this reported Ministry of Finance of Ukraine.
On September 11, an agreement was signed between the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Education and Science and the World Bank regarding the joint project “Increasing the accessibility and sustainability of education in the crisis in Ukraine” (LEARN). This is the first major educational project implemented jointly with the World Bank in recent years, for a total amount of 415 million dollars.
The project is aimed at two key areas:
- investment in safe and quality education:
- construction and modernization of school shelters.
- procurement of safe and inclusive school buses for students.
- support for the reform of the New Ukrainian School (NUS):
- providing students with new textbooks and educational materials.
- professional development of teachers and heads of educational institutions according to the standards of the National Academy of Sciences.
The World Bank, which has already provided Ukraine with about 40 billion dollars to support social spending and rebuild infrastructure, will now allocate 235 million dollars for a new educational project, with the support of the Japanese government. A loan of $150 million is also provided.
Funds will be provided under the mechanism of “Programme for Performance Lending” (PforR), which means the allocation of funding after the achievement of specific goals.
In addition, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine approved a list of the most dangerous regions for offline training, which will help determine places for building shelters and organizing the educational process.
