Oleksandr Usyk received a 90-day postponement of his title defense

Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk received a 90-day delay to organize his next fight. This was reported by the WBO boxing organization.

After the victory over the British Daniel Dubois, Usyka was determined to be the mandatory contender for the defense of the WBO title — New Zealander Joseph Parker. At the end of July, the organization obliged the parties to start negotiations on the terms of the fight. 30 days were set aside for the agreement, but Usyk asked for a postponement due to a back injury.

The WBO ordered the Ukrainian to undergo a second medical examination, and according to World Boxing News, the president of the organization, Gustavo Olivieri, was inclined to give the boxer a postponement until the end of 2025. On September 7, the WBO announced the official decision: Usyk was given 90 days to recover, after which the absolute champion will be obliged to resume negotiations for the next fight.

However, the Ukrainian’s next opponent may not be Joseph Parker. The WBO announced that the New Zealand boxer will fight Briton Fabio Wordley, who is a contender for Usyk’s WBA title.

Promoter Frank Warren shared the idea of organizing a fight between Joseph Parker and Fabio Wordley in a program on YouTube channel Box Nation. The head of the promotion company Queensberry Promotion emphasized that the winner of this confrontation will receive a temporary title and become a mandatory contender for a meeting with Oleksandr Usyk.

The next opponent of the Ukrainian should be the winner of the Parker-Wordley match. The fight between Usyk’s title contenders is scheduled for October 25 in London. Whoever wins will receive the status of temporary champion and will become the next mandatory opponent for the Ukrainian boxer.
