Oleksiy Honcharenko called for making a nuclear bomb and defending Ukraine on its own

Against the background of the official statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine about the rejection of any security guarantees, except for full NATO membership, People’s Deputy Oleksiy Goncharenko expressed doubt as to whether Ukraine’s accession to the Alliance would ensure full security in the country. He stated, that the only correct solution would be to make a nuclear bomb.
“For the entire duration of the war, I don’t think there are any other guarantees than nuclear weapons and a strong army. That’s why NATO is very good. But NATO will not protect. Nuclear weapons will protect. We must spit on everything and everyone and make a bomb. Next let’s figure it out”, – says the deputy’s statement.
Discussions about security in Ukraine and ways to guarantee it remain relevant against the background of ongoing Russian aggression and uncertain prospects for Ukraine’s accession to NATO.
Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine published an official position on possible security guarantees that could serve as a deterrent against the aggression of the Russian Federation. In its statement, designed as a political position document, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs recalled the expectations that were based on the “Budapest Memorandum” of 1994, signed as part of the agreements on Ukraine’s renunciation of nuclear weapons.
