OpenAI is launching a feature that allows users in ChatGPT to interact with third-party applications
OpenAI has announced the launch of a new feature that allows users to interact with third-party applications directly within ChatGPT. reports TechCrunch.
Now you can use interactive tools from such services as Booking.com, Expedia, Spotify, Figma, Coursera, Zillow and Canva in ChatGPT. The previous version of the SDK was opened for developers, which allows you to create your own applications for integration into the ChatGPT environment.
Unlike the previous GPT Store, which operated as a separate platform, the new system integrates applications directly into the chatbot’s response. This allows you to call third-party services during a normal dialog. For example, you can ask Figma to turn a sketch into a diagram or turn to Coursera for a machine learning course. In Zillow, users will be able to search for apartments in their region within a specified budget and immediately view an interactive map of the results.
ChatGPT will also automatically suggest apps if they might be useful. Yes, when requesting to create a music playlist, the system can connect Spotify. We plan to add integration with DoorDash, Instacart, Uber and AllTrails in the future.
Technically, the function works on the basis of the Model Context Protocol (MCP), which provides the connection of external data sources and allows displaying the interactive interface of applications in responses. Some of them support video playback, and users with active subscriptions will be able to log into their accounts directly through ChatGPT.
OpenAI also announced plans to monetize integrated services with Instant Checkout. At the same time, the company emphasized that developers should collect only the minimally necessary data and transparently report on the permissions granted. The open issue currently concerns the access of third-party services to the history of user dialogues.
