Trump lifts sanctions against several Russian companies and banks
US President Donald Trump canceled part of the sanctions previously imposed on Syria, which led to the exclusion of a number of Russian banks, institutions and individuals from the sanctions lists. About this it is said in the press release of the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Department of the Treasury (OFAC).
In particular, sanctions were lifted against Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, the former president of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) and the former head of the Republic of Kalmykia, who in 2015 was accused of supporting Bashar Assad’s regime. Restrictions were also lifted from the “Russian Financial Alliance” controlled by him.
In addition, “Tempbank” (lost its license in 2017), as well as a number of its managers and members of the supervisory board, were excluded from the lists. Sanctions were also canceled against the banks “Mir Business Bank” and “RFK-Bank”. Among the companies affected by the decision are “Promsryemport” (controlled by the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation), “Global Concepts Group”, “Maritime Assistance”, “STG Logistics” and others.
Sanctions were also lifted from the state company “Rosoboronexport”, which is engaged in the export and import of weapons and is part of the state corporation “Rostec”.
It will be recalled that on June 30, President Trump signed a decree on the cancellation of part of the sanctions introduced in 2004 against Syria. The restrictions were lifted on July 1, according to the official position, in order to support the country’s path to “stability and peace.”
