OpenAI, Oracle and SoftBank announced the launch of five new data centers
The companies OpenAI, Oracle and SoftBank announced the launch of five new data centers within the framework of the Stargate project. After their commissioning, the total capacity of the network will reach 7 GW, which is enough to supply more than 5 million homes. This is reported by OpenAI on its official website.
Over the next three years, the partners will invest more than $400 billion, and by the end of 2025 they plan to increase the investment to $500 billion and increase the total capacity to 10 GW. The Stargate project, presented in January 2025 at the White House, aims to develop infrastructure for artificial intelligence and create new jobs in the United States.
Three new data centers are planned to be built in Texas, New Mexico and the Midwest region of the USA. In addition, an additional 600 MW of expansion is planned near the main campus in Abilene, Texas. Together, these facilities will create more than 25,000 jobs and provide more than 5.5 GW of energy capacity.
Two of the new data centers will be built in cooperation with SoftBank — in Lordstown (Ohio) and Milem County (Texas). Their combined capacity could reach 1.5 GW within the next 18 months. To ensure energy supply, the project is supported by the SB Energy company, which is part of the SoftBank group.
