Over 20 countries to participate in first meeting of Trump Peace Council
White House Press Secretary Carolyn Levitt reported that representatives from more than 20 countries are expected to attend the first meeting of the Gaza Peace Council. According to the White House press service, this indicates great international interest in the event.
“I know that we are talking about more than 20 countries, and this indicates great interest in the meeting. I will not read you the list of 20 countries from the podium, but we will provide it later,” Levitt said.
According to her, during the meeting, Donald Trump will announce plans by the participating countries to provide more than $5 billion for reconstruction and humanitarian assistance in Gaza. In addition, the countries will send thousands of military and law enforcement personnel to participate in the international stabilization force and police in the enclave.
The creation of the Peace Council under the leadership of the US President was approved on January 22 in Davos. Trump’s idea is to focus first on a peaceful settlement and reconstruction of Gaza, and then expand to other global conflicts. Representatives of fewer than 20 countries, including European Union members Hungary and Bulgaria, attended the signing ceremony. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban promised to personally attend the first meeting of the Peace Council.
Later, Greece and Italy announced their participation in the event as observers. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stressed that Kyiv would consider membership in the organization only after the war is over, as Belarus and Russia were also invited.
