Parliament increased excise duties on fuel: how will prices change

Following the increase in electricity tariffs, Ukrainians expect an increase in the cost of fuel. On June 4, the Verkhovna Rada supported the corresponding bill in the first reading. The increase in prices will start from July 1 and will be gradual – the increase in excise duty will be stretched over five years.
In this way, the parliament brings Ukrainian legislation into compliance with EU norms. Excise duties on fuel will be raised to the minimum level established in the European Union.
The Verkhovna Rada adopted as a basis alternative draft law No. 11256-2 on increasing the excise tax on fuel. 227 people’s elected representatives cast their votes for him. Despite higher tax rates on petrol and diesel, the alternative draft provides for lower excise duties on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) than the previous version of the government’s bill.

Currently, fuel excise rates in Ukraine are as follows: the excise tax on gasoline is 213.5 euros per 1,000 liters, on diesel – 139.5 euros, on gas – 52 euros, on alternative fuels – 162 euros. In five years, rates should rise to 359 euros for 1,000 liters of gasoline. The excise tax for diesel fuel will increase to 330 euros, for liquefied gas – to 125 euros per 1 thousand kg (about 68 euros per 1 thousand liters)
