Partners proposed UN resolution on peace without wording about Russian aggression: Zelensky
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that some countries have called on Ukraine to stop working on the UN General Assembly resolution “Supporting lasting peace in Ukraine”. The head of state said this in an interview with NRK News. According to the president, Kyiv did not agree to such proposals and decided not to back down from its position.
“I said: “No, no steps back.” “There are many countries that support us,” he noted.
Zelensky also reported that some partners had proposed a version of the text without mentioning the wording “Russian aggression.” At the same time, he emphasized that the rejection of these words could lead to a dilution of responsibility in the future. According to him, without a clear definition, in a few years the world could forget about the real causes of the war.
The President emphasized that Ukraine is grateful to the 107 states that supported the resolution.
“We cannot allow people and countries to forget that this is actually aggression against peaceful people,” he added.
At the same time, 51 countries abstained from voting, including the United States, China, Hungary, Armenia, Kazakhstan, and Serbia. The document was opposed by 12 states, including Russia, Belarus, and Iran.
Last year, the UN General Assembly adopted two resolutions on Ukraine — an American document with amendments and a separate text prepared by Ukraine together with European partners.
