Payments for Ukrainian refugees in Sweden will increase fourfold

The Swedish government has prepared a bill that will allow Ukrainians to obtain a Swedish social insurance number. This will simplify access to most government services and allow you to receive a wider list of medical services free of charge. The new law also provides for an increase in payments for refugees.

“This means that Ukrainians will have completely different access to the Swedish health care system, the opportunity to obtain a BankID, and will also be entitled to significantly higher compensation,” – said Minister of Migration Maria Malmer Stenergaard.

Also, according to the minister, legislative changes will allow citizens of Ukraine to get more opportunities to learn the Swedish language, study and cooperate with the employment service. So, over time, finding a job will be easier.

Earlier, the Swedish government was criticized for the small amount of payments for refugees. The amount of daily compensation for Ukrainians who arrived in Sweden after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is currently SEK 71. If the law is passed, daily payments will increase to 308 kroner per person, which is 4.5 times more than now.

The legislative initiative has already been submitted for discussion. It is expected that the Swedish parliament will pass the law in the fall. The Minister of Migration is confident of a positive decision.
