Pentagon stops providing certain medical services to transgender soldiers

The Pentagon is ending the provision of certain medical services for transgender US service members. The decision is part of President Donald Trump’s plan to exclude transgender people from the US military. About this informs Reuters with reference to an internal document of the US Department of Defense.

Under the new policy, the Pentagon prohibits prescribing new hormone therapies and any surgical procedures for transgender military members.

“I order the necessary measures to be taken for immediate implementation,” – said in a memo signed by Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs Steven Ferrari.

We will remind that on May 6, the US Supreme Court allowed the Trump administration to officially introduce a ban on transgender persons serving in the military. This opens the door to the discharge of thousands of active transgender military personnel and the refusal to enroll new candidates. According to official statistics, 4,240 transgender people currently serve in the US military, but human rights organizations believe that this number is an underestimate.

Last week, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered the start of the process to release those transgender service members who do not wish to leave voluntarily, setting a June 6 deadline.
