People’s Artist of Ukraine Stepan Giga has died

People’s Artist of Ukraine Stepan Giga died in Lviv at the age of 66. Information about the artist’s death was published on the singer’s official Instagram page on Friday, December 12.

According to media reports, in recent weeks Stepan Giga had been in the intensive care unit of the First Territorial Medical Association of Lviv, where he was taken on November 19. Doctors then performed an emergency operation on him. The media noted that the treatment was complicated by the consequences of a viral infection on the background of diabetes. Despite all the efforts of doctors, the singer’s life could not be saved.

Stepan Giga was born in 1959 in the village of Bilky in Transcarpathia. In November of this year, the artist celebrated his 66th birthday. He made himself known on the Ukrainian stage in the 1990s: his first album was released in 1995, and three years later the singer received the title of “Honored Artist of Ukraine”. In 2002, he became a People’s Artist of Ukraine. Among his most popular songs are “Natal Street”, “This Dream”, “Yavorina” and “Gold of the Carpathians”.
