Poland reacted to the possible shutdown of Starlink in Ukraine

Minister of Digitalization of Poland Krzysztof Hawkowski said that the state has already purchased Starlink satellite terminals for the needs of Ukraine, pays for their work and does not plan to change this approach. This is done despite information about a possible shutdown of the system by the US if Kyiv does not agree to sign an agreement on rare earth metals. This is what the minister said wrote in the X social network, stressing that Poland cannot consider the option of terminating the current commercial contract, because it is one of the parties to this agreement.

Such statements appeared against the background of reports by the Reuters agency, which, citing anonymous sources, claimed that American officials are pressuring the Ukrainian authorities to gain access to Ukraine’s minerals, using as one of the levers the possibility of shutting down Starlink. In particular, this issue was discussed at meetings between representatives of the US and Ukraine after President Volodymyr Zelenskyy rejected the initial proposal of US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

Also, the issue of satellite Internet was raised again during the meeting of the US special representative for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg, with Zelenskyi. According to The Wall Street Journal, an agreement between Ukraine and the US on access to Ukrainian minerals can be signed today, February 22. However, a representative of the President’s Office denied these data, noting that negotiations with the American side are currently not held due to the lack of authorized representatives, and work on the document continues.
