Later, doctors diagnosed bilateral inflammation of the lungs. As of February 20, his clinical condition has slightly improved. At the same time, Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, the former Minister of Culture of the Vatican, suggested the possibility of Pope Francis abdicating because of his health.
Francis, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio, was born on December 17, 1936 in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina. First, he got an education in a secondary special industrial school as a chemist, after which he worked in the Hickethier-Bachmann laboratory, where he was engaged in checking the compliance of food products with sanitary standards.
At the age of 21, he decided to enter the seminary. In 1958, he joined the Jesuit order, where he received a humanitarian education in the order’s educational institutions. Subsequently, Francis studied humanities and taught literature and psychology. He began his religious journey in 1969.
Francis became Pope on March 13, 2013, succeeding Benedict XVI, who abdicated due to ill health. Benedict XVI died in December 2022.
