Popular remote: labor market trends – 2024

The most valuable thing that covid has given humanity is remote work. This is how both employers and employees joke in the labor market. During the forced isolation, many professional sectors discovered the possibility of remote performance of functions and tasks. With the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the remote control has become an almost normal phenomenon in the field of education, science, communications, marketing, sales, etc. For specialists who moved abroad in search of safe living conditions, the forms of work found during the pandemic allowed them to remain in demand in Ukraine. For employers, the transfer of part of the personnel resource to home working conditions has opened opportunities for savings.

Obviously, not all professional fields and job roles are equally suited to remote functioning. So we tried to figure out which professional categories are currently most adapted to the “remoteness” of their workers.

Using Work.ua data, we ranked vacancies in the “Remote work” section. And that’s what we got.

Computer and IT sectors are leading as leading branches of remote work. This is easily explained by the fact that tasks in this field are often digital in nature and require only one thing to complete – a reliable Internet connection.

The marketing and communication industry, which includes advertising and PR, is not far behind the leaders. Here, the logic of switching to remote is also clear. Both marketing research and creative development are now also quite productively conducted online. Virtual collaboration tools allow these industries to work effectively regardless of location. In third place – sales and procurement. The high level of job representation proves that these traditional office functions can also be successfully adapted to a remote format.

Other in-demand remote work roles involve providing telecommunications and communication, which can be implemented in the physical workplace if necessary.

For security reasons, education and science have gone online. Much has been said about the lack of live communications in these human-centric industries. The war made adjustments to the educational process and left scientists outside the boundaries of live discussions of ideas, concepts, and achievements.

Until recently, paper-based types of work – secretarial, clerical – have also recently shown adaptability to online realities. Finance and banking services are moving into the digital environment.

These industry and professional statistics demonstrate the labor market’s acceptance of telecommuting. With the development of digital tools and changing norms of work, telecommuting is no longer a niche concept, but is becoming a growing trend that spans different fields.
