Putin announced the test of the nuclear torpedo “Poseidon”

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that the Russian Federation has successfully tested the unmanned vehicle “Poseidon”. According to him, the vehicle is equipped with a nuclear power plant, can supposedly travel indefinitely and is impossible to intercept. This was reported by the Kremlin press service.

Putin claims that the tests took place on October 28, and that the vehicle was supposedly launched for the first time from a carrier submarine, after which it moved using its own nuclear power plant. Putin called the event a “great success” and added that “Poseidon” has no analogues in terms of speed and depth, and there are no ways to intercept it. He also assured that the power of “Poseidon” allegedly “significantly exceeds” the power of the “Sarmat” missile.

“Poseidon” is a large-caliber torpedo with nuclear potential, designed to deliver a nuclear warhead to the coast of a potential enemy in order to cause guaranteed damage, in particular radioactive contamination or causing a tsunami. The development of the device in Russia is being carried out in secrecy as part of the armed forces modernization program.

The press service of the Russian army claims that the device can operate at considerable depths and overcome intercontinental distances, which, in the case of mass production, will make it a serious element of strategic deterrence. The unmanned underwater vehicle is allegedly capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear charges, and its nuclear power plant provides a virtually unlimited range.

As a reminder, on October 26, Putin announced the testing of another nuclear-powered weapon, the “Burevestnik” cruise missile, which, according to him, took place on October 21.
