Recruitment to the Ukrainian Legion has started in Poland

The first group of Ukrainian Legion volunteers signed contracts with the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The signing took place at the recruiting center at the Consulate General of Ukraine in Lublin, informs press service of the department.
In the course of the procedure, the head of the center successively invited each of the volunteers to sign the contract, the terms of which they had already familiarized themselves with.
At a media briefing, representative of the center Petro Horkusha noted that more than 600 people have already applied to join the Ukrainian Legion.
The creation of the Ukrainian Legion became known at the beginning of July, when the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi and the Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk signed a security agreement in Warsaw. One of its points provided for the training of Ukrainian units on the territory of Poland.
Volunteers of the Ukrainian Legion can conclude a contract for a certain period (three years) or until the end of a special period. After signing the contracts, the recruits will be sent to a training ground near Lublin for training. The training will be carried out by instructors from NATO countries, and the basic course, which meets NATO standards, will last 35 days. Fighters will be able to undergo additional specialized training at other training centers.
According to the agreement, the Ukrainian side provides military uniforms and medicine for the volunteers, while the Polish side provides infrastructure, equipment and weapons for training. It is also currently being discussed whether Poland will fully equip the legion before sending volunteers to Ukraine to participate in hostilities.
