The EU has allocated €76 million for the construction of a Eurorail line between Lviv and Poland
The European Union has allocated a grant of 76 million euros to Ukraine for the implementation of the first stage of the project on the construction of a European-style railway track that will connect Lviv with the Polish border. The project has already received the approval of the Coordinating Committee of the Connecting Europe Facility program, reported in the press service of “Ukrzaliznytsia”.
The funds will be directed to the laying of a 1435 mm standard track on the route between Sknilov and Mostysk II.
“Thanks to the implementation of the project, trains from Ukraine will be able to run to Poland and EU countries without stopping and changing carriages, as well as without transfers. This will significantly reduce the travel time for both passengers and cargo. In addition, Eurorail will open new opportunities for intermodal transportation and transit, reducing the load on automobile checkpoints.”, — explained in “Ukrzaliznytsia”.
The European Union has selected 94 transport projects for financing, and among them the “Sknyliv – Mostyska II” initiative from Ukrzaliznytsia is among the top ten that will receive support within the framework of the CEF program this year. This indicates the strategic importance of this project for European partners. At the same time, the main part of the funds, namely 77% of the total budget of the program, will be directed to the development and renewal of railway infrastructure in the territory of the EU.
“Ukrzaliznytsia” has already moved the border control point to the Mostyska II station, which made it possible to speed up border crossing. The construction of the Eurotrack between Chop and Uzhhorod is also nearing completion.
