Robert Fizo was operated on, there is no longer a threat to his life: details

On May 15, the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, along with other government officials, arrived for a meeting in the city of Handlova. According to the media, when the prime minister came out to the people who were waiting for him under the building, shots rang out. Fizo suffered several injuries — allegedly to his limbs, chest and stomach. Due to the threat to his life, he was transported by helicopter to a hospital in the city of Banska Bystrica, because Bratislava is too far.

About this stated Deputy Prime Minister Thomas Taraba commented on the BBC.

As far as I know the operation went well and I assume he will survive in the end“, said Taraba.

He noted that the prime minister was shot at from a very close range: one bullet went through the stomach, and the second hit a joint. Slovak mass media write that Robert Fico has stabilized his condition already after the operation.

Edition Dennik N reported that the attacker was a man born in 1953 from the city of Levice. He shot Fico with a short-barreled shotgun that he legally had. Russian opposition media claim that the man belongs to the pro-Russian group Slovenský Branci, which cooperated with pro-Kremlin “bikers” – the so-called “Night Wolves”.

The Minister of Internal Affairs, Matus Sutai Estoka, called the shooting a politically motivated assassination attempt.
