The European Commission proposes to expand the “wall of drones” to all EU countries
The European Commission proposes to expand the initiative called “drone wall” on Europe’s eastern flank to ensure the protection of the entire continent after several countries expressed concern that they felt left out. reports Reuters.
A proposal for a broader “European Initiative on Defense Against Drones” will be included in the “road map of defense readiness”, which the European Commission will present on Thursday. Representatives of the European Commission explained that the main idea is to create a network of sensors, electronic jamming systems and weapons from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea to prevent possible future invasions.
Eastern European countries supported the initiative, while southern and western European states said it ignored drone threats in their regions.
European Defense Commissioner Andrius Kubilius, speaking at a defense conference in Brussels, also hinted at the changes, using both the old and the new name of the project:
“We propose the European Drone Wall”, more precisely the “European Drone Protection Initiative” – as an anti-drone network for the protection of all of Europe and other flagship defense projects.
Let us remind you that the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen proposed to create a “wall of drones” after the incident last month, when about twenty Russian drones violated the airspace of Poland, a member state of the EU and NATO.
