Russia has no intention of moving troops from eastern Ukraine to the Kursk region: Bloomberg

The Russian military command decided not to carry out significant redeployments of troops from the Donbass to the Kursk region, despite the Ukrainian offensive in this region. About this informs the Bloomberg agency with reference to an unnamed interlocutor close to the Kremlin.

According to the information, the Russian military prefers to keep its forces in the east of Ukraine to continue offensive operations, than to transfer them to protect the Kursk region.

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov and the Russian Defense Ministry did not respond to the agency’s requests for comment. It is known that some Russian units were withdrawn from Ukraine after the start of the Ukrainian operation in the Kursk region, however, according to the Institute for the Study of War, these forces were not key to combat operations on the front line.

“The Kremlin may not be in a hurry to expel Ukrainian forces from the region and will instead continue to prioritize its offensive operations in eastern Ukraine.”, – the report emphasizes.

The Ukrainian operation in the Kursk region began on August 6 and for almost a week there was no official comment from the Ukrainian authorities. Only on August 12, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed its holding.

On August 15, Ukraine announced the creation of the first military command post in the Kursk region, and on August 20, General Oleksandr Syrskyi announced that Ukrainian forces control 1,263 square kilometers of territory and 93 settlements in this region.
