Russia has started using bitcoin to circumvent international sanctions

Russian companies began to actively use bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies for international payments after changes in legislation allowing the use of digital currencies in foreign trade. This was a response to sanctions that made it difficult for the Russian Federation to cooperate economically with key partners such as China and Turkey. informs Reuters.
Although such operations have been carried out for some time, the Russian authorities intend to expand their use in international trade. Today, Russia is one of the leading producers of bitcoins and plans to use this cryptocurrency for international transactions in the future.
“This is part of an experimental regime that allows the use of bitcoins mined in Russia for foreign trade transactions,” – said the Minister of Finance of the Russian Federation Siluanov.
It will be recalled that Russian President Vladimir Putin recently criticized the use of the dollar for political purposes, saying that it undermines its role as the world’s reserve currency. Putin called bitcoin an example of an alternative asset that does not depend on regulation by other countries.
