Russia vows to respond firmly to possible South Korean interference in the war in Ukraine
On October 23, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia issued a sharp warning to South Korea, warning it against interfering in the war in Ukraine. This statement was made by the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Maria Zakharova, citing the Russian Interfax.
Zakharova emphasized that Moscow categorically does not accept possible actions of South Korea that could threaten the interests of Russia, and threatened a “harsh reaction”. She noted that Russia will respond to any steps it considers threatening the security of the country and its citizens.
“We believe that the South Korean authorities should not play along with the Kyiv regime. The Russian Federation will really react harshly to any steps that may pose a threat to the security of the country, its citizens, wherever its citizens are located. These measures can be very tangible“, she emphasized.
In addition, the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on South Korea to avoid “anti-Russian hysteria” and to take into account the possible consequences for security.
Against the background of this aggravation, Kyiv Post previously reported that 20 military personnel, including six North Korean citizens, were killed during the rocket attack on the occupied territories of Donetsk region. These military men advised the Russian army. This information increases concerns about the growing cooperation between Russia and North Korea.
South Korean Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun also expressed concern, noting that North Korea could send troops to Ukraine to support Russian forces. During a press conference in Brussels, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said that Russia plans to involve about 10,000 North Korean troops in hostilities in Ukraine.
The head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, confirmed that about 11,000 North Korean infantrymen are currently in Russia to prepare for hostilities. He said that the first unit, consisting of 2,600 soldiers, should already arrive in the Kursk region, where Ukraine maintains its positions.
