Russian shelling of Kyiv damaged the Qatari embassy building: Zelensky called on the world to react decisively
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the world, primarily the United States, must respond to Russia’s large-scale nighttime shelling of Ukraine, during which an Oreshnik medium-range ballistic missile was used. The Qatari embassy building in Kyiv was damaged as a result of the strike.
Zelensky stressed that Russia must receive signals about the need for a diplomatic settlement and about the consequences of focusing on destruction and killings. He also emphasized that supporting air defense systems should remain a priority for Ukraine, and the country will continue to inform international partners about the scale of the attacks and the need for appropriate measures.
The President reported that the elimination of the consequences of the shelling in Kyiv and the region continues with the participation of all necessary services. About twenty residential buildings were damaged, at least four people died, including an ambulance worker, and dozens were injured. One of the residential buildings was hit again while providing assistance to the victims after the first strike.
Overnight, 242 drones, 13 ballistic missiles against energy and civil infrastructure facilities, one medium-range ballistic missile “Oreshnik” and 22 cruise missiles were recorded. The attack took place during a severe cold snap, which significantly complicated the lives of the civilian population, but restoration work is ongoing, in particular regarding the supply of heating and electricity.
Zelensky noted that the Qatari Embassy building was damaged by a drone, emphasizing the important role of this country in mediating the release of Ukrainian prisoners of war and civilians held in Russian prisons.
